Microsoft Office 2003 suites and applications aren’t compatible with Windows 8 (or Windows 8 Pro).

If you have Office 2003, it’s recommended that you upgrade to a newer version of Office to avoid any potential problems.

You should also go to the Windows Compatibility Center to see if the applications and devices on your PC are compatible with Windows 8.

    So it 'mostly' works once I got past the EULA issue. Minor problem with Outlook which is that autocomplete of addresses does not work. Maybe I'm hallucinating but I swear it worked up until a couple of weeks ago then suddenly stopped. The autocomplete list of addresses still comes up but when you hit tab or enter or select an item you only get what you actually typed - i.e. the partial name. Anyone else see this? Anyone have a workaround?

    Sadly - what you are describing is a downgrade not an upgrade.  Something as simple as adding new documents from the context menu, printing to file or using my beloved picture manager have gone the way of the dinosaur.  To me these are all huge backward steps.  Why is Microsoft in suc a rush to move us backwards?  Time to go bac to Word Perfect or has Corel done the same?

    This particular incompatibility has no connection with Windows 8.  The format of the PST changed between Outlook 2002 and Outlook 2003 from ANSI to UNICODE.  Outlook 2003 and later can open an ANSI PST, but Outlook 2002 and earlier can't open a UNICODE PST.  The solution, then, is to create an ANSI PST in the later version and transfer the data to it.  This would be true no matter what version of Windows you used.
