I am finding Publisher 2013 unbelievably slow, so slow as to be unworkable.

I have a new laptop and it handles all programs well including Photoshop but Publisher 2013 is extremely slow.  Even highlighting text can take over a second.  Earlier versions of Publisher are fine.  Can anyone suggest a cause and a solution?

Perhaps uncheck the "use Office to sync files faster..." setting in SkyDrive.

[Edit] After posting the above, I ran across another possible fix:

In Publisher go to File > Options > Advanced and check 'disable hardware graphics acceleration'.

I also had this problem.  I didn't when I first installed Publisher, but after about a week it became so slow it was driving me crazy!  I tried all the options that were listed in this forum, and none of them helped.  I finally just ended up uninstalling Microsoft Skydrive all together - I wasn't using it anyway - and bam!  Problem fixed! Publisher now runs great!

I was struggling with the same slow unusable situation with Publisher 2013.    I dropped back to Publisher 2010.  I do not have the time nor would I expect to fuss around trying all these patches/delete patches/updates.

I have pretty good efficiency editing a 68.9MB pub doc in Pub2010 but it was too big to save as jpg or pdf or anything other than .pub.   Switching back to 2013 I was able to create a  9.7MB pdf but still could not export a jpg.

    Thanks but I think this is missing the point.  Publisher is supposedly designed for producing high quality publications.  It should be able to do these things and earlier versions of Publisher can manipulate the same files without difficulty.  The problem therefore lies with Publisher 2013 which should be withdrawn from the market until these issues are addressed.  There are too many of us reporting the same problem for it to be a hardware problem and so it must be something that has been changed for the 2013 edition that has caused the problem.  In the meanwhile I have reverted back to the 2007 edition and have no problems.  My biggest complaint is that I have paid for the 2013 edition and cannot get anyone from Microsoft to even acknowledge the problem, never mind issue a refund.

    "I understand your frustrations as I am a victim myself. In any event, I think I have found the problem that makes editing and moving items in ms publisher 2013 to a virtual crawl!! Since I was able to use this application without any problems prior, i highly suspected that it might stem from the many updates we receive from Microsoft but i just could not pin point the exact culprit(s).

    I have however, finally have been able to isolate this update and it is listed as:

    (KB2768349)

    Here's how to uninstall it:

    1. Click on Control Panel.
    2. click on System and Security
    3. Under Windows update, double click on View Update History
    4. On this window double click on the Installed updates (at top of page highlighted in blue)
    5. Go to column that represents Microsoft Office 2013 and look for the aforementioned update, right click and uninstall it. restart your computer and hopefully this will solve your problem.

    Publisher 2013 has been the worst software experience I have ever had.  I can't believe anyone would release this.  It must not have been tested at all.  Nothing helps.  I am going to try and get a credit.  I have moved over to indesign, and I can't believe what amazing software it is.  I am using it on the month by month payment plan.

    I believe there is a 30 day return policy but given the circumstances even it is more than 30 days you can still try to get a refund.

    While InDesign is certainly one of the best DTP there is, it is also more than 5 to 6 times as expensive as Publisher at ~$700. I realize you are leasing the software, but I would suggest you also look at Serif PagePlus http://www.serif.com/pageplus/ Many people who have become dissatisfied with Publisher have reported satisfaction with PagePlus. At about $100 it is a much more economical choice. There is even a free version that after downloading and installing it, you will start getting huge discount offers on the newest version. http://www.serif.com/desktop-publishing-software/
