Word 2013 forgets printer settings

I find the 7 pages of posts on this problem useless.  I read MS does not join in for comments, this makes this site, not just this problem, useless.  Older versions did save job settings.

Luckily, I have both Office 2007, 2010, 2013/365 whatever the subscription is called installed on multiple machines.

In Office 2010 and 2007, Open a doc, set the printer settings (say, duplex on the short side) and print a test page.

With out closing the doc, go back in to print a test page again, the printer settings are remembered.

This is a major and very annoying regression in Office.  Please Fix it.

To be clear - the settings are not saved between closing and opening the document in 2007 and 2010.  But at least once I made the change in an active document, that setting stuck until I closed the document.

Firstly I am a Microsoft fanatic and fan!

Now I have too also agree that printer settings were retained in previous version of MS Word documents, I have used several versions of office in the past (2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2010, and now 2013).

I have never ever had to adjust printing 'settings' in MS Word (2000 - 2007) documents for a second time.

Irrespective of restarting my pc, getting a new pc and copying my data on to it, etc.

I confirm that I never used a macro, or anything else to configure my printing settings in MS Word every time a document opens.

I have also noted that a document that was created by someone else and emailed to me previously that had the printing source tray set to 'tray 2' for example, retained that setting even on my pc in an other office.

This was document specific, each document kept these settings. (see second snapshot, below).

The dispute over whether or not MS Word documents ever retained / stored printing preferences or settings amazes me, some seem to dismiss this altogether no matter what, or however many people report having had this feature in the past.

I would really like to know if any of the so called "non believers" have tried testing it recently with an old version of MS Word, and an old document that was saved in an earlier version of MS Word?

I have attached a screenshot that shows MS Word 2013, under print, settings, pages, print one sided is always defaulted, again, and again. which is very frustrating.

(As I said, I hadn't change my printing "preferences" for a few years, so I truly didn't remember how I did it!)

I had Office 2013 installed a few days ago.

I have ALWAYS been able to "set" my printing preferences in Office 2010 (and previous versions), and have them stay permanent for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, even after logging off (i.e., I set my printing preferences in Word 2010, about 2-3 years ago and never had to reapply).  I did not do this through a macro. I work with about 400 other persons and we all had the ability to go in and change our default preferences by manually selecting what we wanted and then make them our permanent "default".

I am not able to change my default preferences in 2013. I hope that as I keep researching this I will find that there is a way to select my default preferences.
