What replaces office picture manager in office 2013?

The Office Picture Manager has been a very quick and easy tool to use, built into Office and readily available no matter what machine I have to use.  I would rather not have to install 3rd party software to do what MS has made easy to do in the past.

Any word on what this app is called now and where it's hidden in the Office 2013 install?

The best workaround I've found is to use the free SharePoint Designer 2010 to bootstrap the MS Office Picture Manager.

You can get the SharePoint Installer from this post:

Then, for more detailed instructions, you can follow the Guide Here:

The short version is to run the installer.  

Then choose "Customize" instead of "Install Now".  

Then deselect everything that's not "Office Tools" > "Microsoft Office Picture Manager"

Hey John,

You are correct that Office Picture Manager was removed from the suite. Inside programs such as PowerPoint and Word there are still editing tools. You also have Windows Live Photo Gallery which I feel is a much more program specific picture editing tool. Hopefully the small change does not effect your trial of the Next Microsoft Office.

    Further on my earlier post, I would be interested to know what was the trigger for the decision to omit Picture Manager from Office 2013. Were there complaints from users? What drives these types of decisions?

    For years I have been installing the Photo Editor from Office XP in addition to whatever newer Office I had on my machine. The Photo Editor had many features that were missing in the Picture Manager -- though I did use the Picture Manager as my default viewer and editor. I see that the Picture Manager is gone now and something unfamiliar and possibly even less capable has replaced it. Ugh! Now I am going to have several tools installed. I'm so excited. It seems to me if you want stability in your platform, you'll not get it with Microsoft.

    Actually, I totally used to agree with you, kmadley, but within the past month, Microsoft has made some sweeping and awesome changes to Windows Live Photo Gallery (FINALLY!!!), which adds back all the great features of Office Picture Manager, and some new ones as well!  It's just as easy to use, thank goodness...

    I really like your post though.  It looks as though your pressure on Microsoft actually worked!
