What replaces office picture manager in office 2013?

The Office Picture Manager has been a very quick and easy tool to use, built into Office and readily available no matter what machine I have to use.  I would rather not have to install 3rd party software to do what MS has made easy to do in the past.

Any word on what this app is called now and where it's hidden in the Office 2013 install?

The best workaround I've found is to use the free SharePoint Designer 2010 to bootstrap the MS Office Picture Manager.

The short version is to run the installer.  

Then choose "Customize" instead of "Install Now".  

Then deselect everything that's not "Office Tools" > "Microsoft Office Picture Manager"

Hey John,

You are correct that Office Picture Manager was removed from the suite. Inside programs such as PowerPoint and Word there are still editing tools. You also have Windows Live Photo Gallery which I feel is a much more program specific picture editing tool. Hopefully the small change does not effect your trial of the Next Microsoft Office.

    Hi Robert,

    I did try Windows LIve Photo Gallery and found it to be pretty lame by comparison to Office Picture Manager.  I also tried using Windows Explorer to manage my photos, which was OK smaller jobs.  One thing I do with my photos to organize them is use the bulk renaming feature in Office Picture Manager - a very flexible tool, nothing like it in Explorer or Gallery.

    Anyway, I have dumped Office 2013 entirely and reverted to Office 2010 which overall just works better.  Also, word 2010 is faster than 2013, which was very laggy on my computer.  

    One complaint I have with Office 2013 and Windows-8 is that Microsoft has sacrificed functionality and clarity in an attempt to put spanky new window dressings on things.  The result is programs that are harder to see and use.  My guess is that research done in the 1990's produced XP and Office 2003 optimized for ease of use, intuitiveness and clarity.  So how do you improve on that?

    Anyway, here is hoping Microsoft will return to it's roots.  Please let me know when it does.

    Further on my earlier post, I would be interested to know what was the trigger for the decision to omit Picture Manager from Office 2013. Were there complaints from users? What drives these types of decisions?

    I think it's a VERY poor decision to remove this. 

    It was one of the few apps I always used - simple, fast loading, showing image from top and 100% by default, easy and fast rotate / crop. It was exactly what was needed. There's nothing out there so nimble/agile.

    It's an app I'd pay for!

    I agree that it is a poor decision to have omitted Picture Manager. I used it for very specific purposes at the same time as another program and needed to view both at the same time with zoom set at a particular level. The current 2013 options do not behave in the same way. I also used the automatic picture enhancement feature frequently.

    It is disappointing to find that a supposed upgrade of the Office Suite provides reduced functionality. This is something I might have expected from competitors but not Microsoft. 

    Someone has forgotten the old adage 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'.
