rendering the fonts in word 2013 is horrible!

Will Microsoft change it?

This is a similar problem like with Internet Explorer 9 & 10.

What is going on?

IE8 works good, Office 2010 also...

Then?

Check under File>Options>Advanced>Display and check the box for "Use subpixel positioning to smooth fonts on screen" and also try changing the setting for "Disable hardware graphics acceleration"

Bummer - my screen doesn't have the option for that 'Use subpixel positioning' and unchecking "Disable hardware graphics..." didn't clear things up :-(  Now what?  I can't read it, gives me a headache.  Thanks.

In my case it helped a lot to go through the System wide Clear-Type font rendering  wizard. Just go to your start screen and search for Clear Type in the settings section.

    Thanks, Ronald, that definitely helped!

I just installed Office '13 yesterday (testing it at my office before we give it to a bunch of people to make sure we don't run into any major problems.) So far, I've been woefully unimpressed. I have both Office '10 and '13 on my machine, so I can view the exact same document in both formats. It unquestionably looks better in Office '10. Playing with the Clear-Type font rendering helped, but it still looks inferior to the '10 version.

What am I missing here? Is there anything special about '13 (keeping in mind that we run a secure network and will not be using the cloud system at all.) Should I go back to '10, or are there some other improvements that I just haven't noticed yet?
