Office 2013 Activator Error 25004 , even after uninstall , clean boot - reinstall

Hello All ,

I have seen the article for http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2792178 and followed all steps , but still i get that error after 3-4 uninstalls and installs the key gets activated once but again on restart the computer the same product activation dialog is opened and it gives the error.

I am very frustrated please let me know what to do ?

I suspect, but cannot prove, that article is flawed. In all previous versions of Office, simply doing an uninstall will NOT prevent this error. The only thing I know of to prevent the error is a complete re-install of WINDOWS.

That's correct I did re-install of office 3-4 times .. even after having the original key. I was getting the same error.

and FINALLY !!! I had to re-install my WINDOWS

    I have found a reasonably acceptable solution to this. You can install Office 2010 on a computer that had 2013 there first. I had it on my old computer but lost track of the registry key. Fortunately, there are programs that will find the keys for you, so I downloaded one and got the key. Good luck.

    I was having this same issue and finally managed to get around it by doing the following:

    • Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared
    • If there is a folder called OFFICE15 or OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform delete that folder.
    • Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared
    • Same as above, If there is a folder called OFFICE15or OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform delete that folder.

    Now, try reinstalling.

    It worked beautifully! Would you mind explaining how you found this out?

    I had this problem as well.  I had Office 2013 32 bit via 365 Small Business Installed on Windows 8.1.  Tried to uninstall from Control Panel, then install 64 bit version of Office 2013 Professional Plus.  Got the message: Error 25004. The product key you entered cannot be used on this machine.  This is most likely due to the previous Office 2013 trials being installed. (System error: -214217387)  Setup failed. Rolling back changes...

    After many failed attempts following the suggestions in this thread, I stumbled across another MSFT KB that solved my problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501.  I reinstalled Office 365, then ran the O15CTRRemove.diagcab program suggested in the KB.  After I ran this, I rebooted, then I was able to reinstall my new copy of 64 bit Office 2013 Professional Plus with no error.   

    Hopefully, this helps someone else resolve this frustrating roadblock.
