Why do I keep getting "not enough memory to run Excel" messages?

Just though i'd add my 2 cents. Im having the same issue, not enoung memory to run Excel. Im running Office 2013 Click to Run installation and Windows 8 on a powerful PC. I only seem to get the error when single clicking on a file in Explorer and explorer tries to generate a preview. Double click and it opens.

Just something to add here - I get this same error.  I think it has something to do with the Windows 8 Explorer preview window (to the right of the file list when you try to select a file in an attachment file select window or just browing my computer), because I get it every time I just single click on a file, and it then fails to show a preview.  To further this theory, I also get strange errors about "Sorry, something went wrong and Word was unable to start. (24)" when SINGLE clicking on a word document, which also fails to show the preview.  Does this help any of the experts out there tell us how to fix it?

To troubleshoot the issue related to Office, try the steps below:

Step 1:

First let us try opening the application in administrator mode and check if it opens.

To run the Word program in administrator mode, try the steps below:

· go to Computer, Programs files/Program files X (86).

· Look for Microsoft Office ->Office 15.

· Look for Winword.exe

· Right click on it and click Properties

· Click on the Compatibility tab and check the box for Run as admin.

· Click ok.

If this above step does not help then uncheck the box ‘Run as admin’ and then try to repair the Office suite and check the result.

Try the steps below and check the result:

Step 1:

Open task manager and end Excel.exe process.

1. press the Ctrl + Alt+ Delete key -> Click on Task Manager to open.
2. Under Processes tab -> Select Excel.exe -> Click on End Process.

Step 2:

I understand your suggestion, however it is not applicable.  I am getting these errors without opening word or excel.  All I have to do is select them in Windows Explorer.  I get the error, the preview pane fails to preview the file, and I am still able to open the file and use word and excel.

Finally, any solution that requires running an office product as administrator to stop an error wouldn't be a solution at all.  Word should never need this level of permission.
