mail merge not working with office 2013

Trying to do a mail merge with office 2013.  I've done this for years with other versions of office (2003, 2007, 2010) but it's not working with 2013 for some reason.  I'm following all the steps, but the emails aren't getting sent.  Is there some way that the profile or something is set up wrong so that word isn't sending this properly? I've also tried to send via outlook, but in outlook I can't choose an excel spreadsheet for the list of contacts. 

What is wrong with this?  someone plesae help me!  My outlook profiles are all messed up becasue i use icloud to sync the calendar and contacts, but i use pop/stmp (whatever that means) for my email....

    For the type of document that you want to send, you should be using the Merge with Attachments utiility, NOT the Many to One utility.  Also, the doucment should have mergefields inserted into it rather than Content Controls.

    Hi Doug,

    Thank you very much for looking into this. I managed to sort of make it work. The emails are being sent, BUT, without proper name insertion (see snapshot below). I've uploaded the word and excel files I am using to make this merge under these links:

    Can you send me a copy of the data source.  You can remove the records if you want, but leave the first row with the field names.  I will then take a look and see what is causing the problem.

    I re-installed the tool and it seems to be working fine now. Thanks!

    I created an excel sheet with the contacts and used a letter type, as described. Whenever I click on the many-to-one tool though, I get a "mismatch error 13". I guess I've a mistake somewhere in my excel.. The letter template I had used had address, title, recipient name, etc.. I deleted all placeholders from that template and kept what is relevant for me (i.e. recipient name, as I just want to send a personalized email). When I hover over "Recipient Name" with the mouse, it shows "Name", which is why I tried naming my excel column both as "Name" and Recipient Name", but didn't help solving the mismatch error.

    I just don't get why the microsoft mail merge tool isn't functioning properly. I tried using text/HTML, didn't seem to help. And I am able to send attachments directly from word.

    Do NOT use the MergeTools – 20140218.dotm as a template.

    If you go to the Developer tab of the ribbon and click on the Document Template item in the Templates section, do you see the MergeTools – 20140218.dotm item in the list of "Checked items are currently loaded." on the Templates tab of the Templates and Add-ins dialog? 

    If not, you have NOT saved the file in the correct folder.

    If it is in the list, but does not have a tick in the box beside it, click on that box to load it.
