Word 2013 slow typing

Hi Folks,

I am using Word 2013 that comes with my Office 365. I regularly paste photos into cells in a word document template that I use every day, and then write a description in a neighboring cell. It is saved in the most recent word format.

Just recently the display of the text when typing is veryyyyy slow showing up when typing after pasting the picture/s. I have used the Office 365 for 6 months or more before this issue cropped up. This issue has just started in last week or so. No hardware or driver issues on computer, and I have tried a system restore to a date prior to the problem with no results. I use Windows 7 Professional, service pack 1. Plenty of RAM, and a large 480 GB solid state hard drive for the C drive.

The weird thing is, if I save the document in the older format (word 97-2003) the program works fine, but that is not a good long term solution for numerous reasons. I have tried the disabling the hardware acceleration as suggested in other blogs, but that did not resolve the issue. I have also tried increasing the virtual memory, which did not help either. Getting ready to jump out a window, hope someone has a suggestion that works. Getting ready to go back to office 2010. Don't like the Outlook 2013 preview pane limited view of the body of the email issue, and this latest issue makes me crazy with all the time I have burned up on it...

    Is there any further news on this problem? I have a Word 2013 document created from scratch, that is painfully slow to type in. The document is all tables with text and inserted from file (not pasted) (small) pictures.

    I have disabled hardware acceleration, turned off the office animations, even added the DisableAnimations key to the registry (which showed some promise initially). I have turned off background saves and disabled all Add-ins.

    is there something else that I can try? If it wasn't for the fact that I am adding pictures to the tables I could work in Outline view, but I should not have to do that.

    I have a Dell Precision M6600 with 16GB RAM. Windows 7 pro (64 bit) and 300 GB free hard drive space.

    Please help!! This is just nuts! Scrolling and typing in this document is so painful!

    Thanks Doug, appreciate your insight, but if I can't open, edit and save files on my own one drive without copying them to a local directory first, then the convenience of the OneDrive is greatly diminished. My other system doesn't have this problem, and it doesn't seem to have anything to do with internet speed. My work router is very fast anyway, and I can't imagine that internet speed is the real problem.

    Because it's in the cloud and the speed of your internet connection comes into the picture.

    If you need to work with documents that are stored in OneDrive, it is best to download the document to the local drive and open it from there and then after you have finished with it and have saved it to the local drive, upload it to OneDrive.

    Hi Doug. When I create a new, unsaved word document, it goes just fine. But as soon as I save to my OneDrive, it becomes very slow. So we have one aspect of the "why" but I don't know why the OneDrive is creating such a problem for me. I don't have these problems on my other machine with Office 2010 and OneDrive.

    You are probably working on a file that is synched to your OneDrive account. 

    If you create a new document does the problem still occur?
