Arrow keys don't work in slide view mode in powerpoint

My powerpoint used to work fine but recently I am unable to advance or move my slides backwards in the Slide view mode with arrow keys, space bar and return.  Nothing seems to work.  I cannot even exit the presentation with the ESC key.  I need to use the cursor to exit presentation.  Because of this situation, I cannot use the remote control to advance my slides.  PLS HELP!!!

I have fixed the problem on my side following these steps:

  • Open the "Slide show" tab in the ribbon
  • Click on "Set Up Slide Show"
  • Make sure that following options are selected "Show type" = presented by the speaker (full screen) and "Advance slides" = manually

    having exactly the same issue... and yes, as a profesional trainer, this is causing mayhem.

    Question: Can someone describe the process for rolling back the version from 14.3.2 to 14.2.3?

    Just to add more info.  Was also caught off-guard in the middle of a presentation at a podium away from laptop on the 23rd. I was lax in updates and updated 14.3.1 and 14.3.2 on Thursday.  Never had any problems previously and found Powerpoint presentation mode locked up every 18 to 18:30 minutes.  Could not even use the exit icon -- had to force shut down lap top and re-boot.  Spent Sunday morning re-creating problem with laptop standalone on a table -- wireless off, all other applications off, powerpoint in presenter mode, no projector.  Locked up every 18-18:45 minutes regardless of varied idle times.  Did discover that left/right arrow keys worked with mouse but still could not exit program with <esc> or <X exit> keys.  Had to force re-boot of laptop which is a 6 month old, dual core, non-retina, Macbook Air 13".

    Thank you all for posting problems and work-arounds.  I think I'll try reloading Office for Mac and stop at the 14.2.3 update so next week goes better. Maybe even purchase Key-note.

    Was supposed to be taken care off by 14.3.2, but it has not, you all should keep sending ms feedback about the issue. Hopefully they would respond with a fix.

    I have suffered severely with a smimilar problem to you. There are two fixes - one is to uninstall Office and re-install WITHOUT the updates.

    The second option which is a hassle - but is the one that worked for me - is to completely re-install Mountain Lion from scratch! I had mine done at an Apple Service Centre - then re-installed Office and the 'freezing' issue was completely resolved AND I was also able to re-install ALL the office updates as well.

    These incompatibilities between Apple and Microsoft are getting worse - and the fixes taking longer and longer - not to mention outdated drivers!
