Change Background color Theme Office 2013

Has anyone come up with how to Change the Color on the Office 2013 Them from "gray".  Microsoft has really not been user friendly with Windows 8 or Office 2013 in enabling the user to change their environment.

I think Microsoft does not read these forum questions.  Otherwise, some of the technical people would be contacting their customers to gain feedback.

I am extremely disappointed in the Office 13 and Win8 programs. 

Anyone got any ideas?

Hi,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft Community. It is unfortunate that you are unable to locate the option in Office 2013 to change the theme of applications. Let me help you with the issue.

For the Office 2013 (RTM) version you may follow the below steps:

  1. Go to the File tab
  2. Click on Options
  3. Choose the General tab on the left
  4. Find the ‘O ffice Theme’ dropdown item
  5. Choose between White, Light Gray, and Dark Gray.

If you have Office 2013 preview version installed, then you have an option to change the background color by clicking on File, Options, General and under the group 'Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office', you may choose the background you wish to change to and click ok.

If you are using preview version of Office then you have a Smiley on the top right hand side of the application, you may click on it and send in your feedback.

    Seriously, is there any place we can read the designers point of view for making the Office 2013 design? I am sure most of us try to be open for new things, but Office 2013 is just ... Well it is close to be the worst interface I have ever seen. It almost seems like the designers agreed to do all the DON'Ts for this product.

     

    I have used Office 2013 for a weekend and it was a HUGE relief being back on my work computer with Office 2010. The difference is so big it should be odvious for even the poorest designer:

    See the first screenshot of Word? Look at it for 5-10 seconds (if the pain in your eyes does not force you to look away before that).

     

    Scroll down to the 2010 screenshots of various products. You can actually FEEL your eyes relaxing by looking at the other colors.

     

    What in the world wen't through the minds of Microsoft making the Office 2013 layout? Who did this? Did ANYONE at Microsoft even test the design and what thoughts was behind using it? Was it by force in a panic moment just to be different or did the designers actually think this layout was BETTER?

     

    As said, this is closed to being the worst interface I have ever seen. It just forces you away. It does exactly what it should NOT do.

     

    Bottom line; WHAT HAPPEND? 

     

    Really, REALLY surprised they did this.  It hurts my eyes as well to look at the screen for an extended period.  I am going back to office 2010.

    Why is Microsoft so clumsy with a simple thing like providing actual colors for a background? This sends a signal that Apple again is the more practical and intuitive provider. I have always used Microsoft products but this lack of practicality is making me sick.

    Got an MS Office update today.

    Looks like some one, after the idiot CEO resigned, was on the ball. Gone is the **** font on the ribbon in comes a few changes but alas no custom backgrounds YET but at last it looks like there listening to us.

    There is a reason Microsoft customers ask questions such as this one. Every time Microsoft comes out with a new version of a product, customers spend hours searching for previously known tools -- which also landed me on this forum. It's like being a Ford mechanic and coming to work one morning only to find someone hid all my tools.  And, to make matters worse, you guys (Microsoft product development wizards) seem to go out of your way to "dumb" things down further with each new revision. It gets really annoying.  So annoying that seeking an alternative to Microsoft is entering the picture more and more when shopping for IT hardware and applications for both workplace and home.
