Change Background color Theme Office 2013

Has anyone come up with how to Change the Color on the Office 2013 Them from "gray".  Microsoft has really not been user friendly with Windows 8 or Office 2013 in enabling the user to change their environment.

I think Microsoft does not read these forum questions.  Otherwise, some of the technical people would be contacting their customers to gain feedback.

I am extremely disappointed in the Office 13 and Win8 programs. 

Anyone got any ideas?

Hi,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft Community. It is unfortunate that you are unable to locate the option in Office 2013 to change the theme of applications. Let me help you with the issue.

For the Office 2013 (RTM) version you may follow the below steps:

  1. Go to the File tab
  2. Click on Options
  3. Choose the General tab on the left
  4. Find the ‘O ffice Theme’ dropdown item
  5. Choose between White, Light Gray, and Dark Gray.

If you have Office 2013 preview version installed, then you have an option to change the background color by clicking on File, Options, General and under the group 'Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office', you may choose the background you wish to change to and click ok.

If you are using preview version of Office then you have a Smiley on the top right hand side of the application, you may click on it and send in your feedback.

    I'm lucky that the company I work for didn't push the Office 2013 upgrade until now - I've only started to suffer today!

    There was probably a sound economic reason why Henry Ford told his customers that they could have the Model T any colour they liked, as long as it was black, but that doesn't make sense for a mass-market software product.

    It seems that Microsoft, or at least the Office part, has become arrogant, because of its dominant position.

    It is happy to roll out a release that disappoints customers, and it ignores their feedback, just because it can.

    I suspect that, behind the arrogance, there is also a degree of incompetence - the developers and product managers at MS must feel that it's too complicated and difficult for them to support colourful themes, or to follow the Windows desktop theme (for window borders, etc.) that all other applications follow. That could be partly because they don't think it makes sense to simply add 'light blue' and 'dark green' and a couple of other options (on top of their three shades of grey) - they would need to integrate the 'theme' concept properly, and that would take some effort and creativity on their part.

    They may also be suffering from having a 'design guru', who convinces everyone that he/she is right about grey, that colour has no place in a serious work-place tool, and that customers will learn to appreciate it after a few more years.

    If only Libre Office and MS Office could format the same documents in the same way, I could switch, but my documents are mangled when I switch from one to the other, so I'm stuck with the one my employer picks - I even bought my own copy so I can work on my home PC, but that's still Office 2007.

    I came across this information on the Office Support pages: What's New and Improved in Office 2016

    In there, they say "Dark Grey" Office Theme is "...easy on the eyes.".

    I wonder what they gonna say about the new "Dark Theme" ?

    We have the Dark Theme for the Midnight-Excel-Hogger in mind, that's over-easy on the eyes.

    The best solution to all of this mess would simply be for MS Office to use the colours that have been set for the central OS Windows theme. That's how it used to work, and then the UI and Graphics Designers at Microsoft lost the plot. It's really that simple

    • just use the Windows theme colours! It's not rocket science Microsoft.
