I think you are supposed to get to the place in the start/Programs menu that you can see the individual components of Office, like Word, Excel, etc., and then right click on one of the programs, select "run as administrator" and all works fine.
And, indeed, the new Office suite is actually kind of nice.
BUT it is should be embarrassing for Microsoft to be so incompetent in fixing a major flaw which interferes with people buying one of their biggest moneymakers. However, they have been this way since the beginning -- making a program or a process intuitive
is just not something they seem to be concerned with -- see early versions of Excel for example.
As a related gripe, just buying Office 365 in the first place is a big pain, all kinds of things to fill out, nothing intuitive. They should hire a few people from Amazon!
