Office 2013 Installation Error "Something went wrong"

Hi,

I just purchased the Microsoft office Professional plus 2013 software. I clicked on the download link given in the confirmation email ->Saved the set up on local -> clicked the setUp.exe -> it started but after 5 mins it gave a message saying "Something went wrong. Sorry, we ran into a problem.

Try going online for additional help."

I unistalled the previous 2010 version and also did a Clean boot. Now when I try to run the set up, nothing happens at all. I even tried to use the original link in the email and clicked on Run directly, but nothing happens.

Please help!!

Thank you for choosing Microsoft Community. I will help you in providing steps to determine the cause of the issue and install Office 2013 successfully on the computer.

One of the common reasons is that, if there is corrupted Office installation files on the computer, Office 2013 cannot be installed. Let us follow the steps.

Step 1:

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Programs & Features to check for multiple versions.

Refer the Method 2 and run the fix it to remove Office suite manually from the computer. This is to ensure all the Office traces are completely removed from the computer.

Hi Deepa,

I had already tried all of these things and mentioned that in my question as well that nothing works. There is another thread where the same reply as yours has been posted and the solution does not work at all for the users.

One of the users - JonathanDyer76 posted a solution and it worked for me.

then try the click to run install one more time worked for me. I was having the same issues as everyone here.

Didn't work.. tried for couple of hours. Why MS does not give any better messaging.. instead of giving a generic message

*********SOLVED************

This is for everyone who has already tried the Office scrubbers, clean boot, firewall, local dvd install and antivirus disable without ANY success.

Its the goddam p.o.s. Libraries !!!! For those who ran the hack to disable the p.o.s. Libraries, you will have to re-enable them. The hack came with two .reg files - one to disable and one to enable. Run the enable .reg and reboot. Then try the Office 2013 install.

For those who didn't disable the Libraries - run the re-enable hack anyway. Your p.o.s. Libraries may have gotten corrupted in the registry.

After Office 2013 installs and you test it that it fckng works, you can disable the p.o.s. Libraries again!

Whats so goddam frustrating is that I went through hundreds of forums (inculding this forum twice) looking for possible solutions that I may have not tried but for some reason or another, skipped over DougJustDoug's answer. Murphy's Law.

I found out the hard way by using 3 fckn goddam weeks of torture!! I was ready to re-install EVERYTHING from scratch. The reason I didn't do that is because this is a very large civil/structural engineering office and you don't just wipe away 500 different pieces of software - many that run in highly customized DOS mode - just because of a p.o.s. Office 2013 installer can't be fckn programmed right.

I have Laptop with Windows 7, 64 bit. Tried to install Office 2013, had the same problem.

That's how I solved it:
1. Run "System restore" - restored Computer to the point before I started Office installation - it automatically removed all registries and traces of Office, even Setup file.
2. Temporary disabled AntiVirus and Firewall.
3. Installed Office 2013 again - it is working!
