Installing Office 2007 on Windows 8 system

I have Office 2007 and have purchased new computer  operating Windows 8. Will Office 2007 work? I have discs with product key. Am I better off purchasing Office 2010 or installing Office 2007 and upgrading to Office 2010 on the new computer?

If you do have a "retail" type license, it will allow you to install on up to 2 machines at the SAME time (3 for home and student).  In that case all you have to do is install and activate on the new machine. 

Do the disks include term "Backup" in the title? It is possible to have an OEM installation and Official "Backup" installation disks.

There is no price discounted "upgrade" version to 2010 like there was up to and including 2007 that required a "qualifying" earlier application to install.  All 2010 licenses are standalone.  So, if you intend to end up with 2010, you might as well skip installing 2007 and go directly to 2010.

If you can install and activate 2007 you might as well use it. The differences between 2007 and 2010 for a single user are very limited. If you haven't needed them up to now, you probably don't need them. Most of the changes in 2010 focused on "collaboration", allowing more than one user to edit the file at the same time.

There are a couple of advantages to buying Office 2010 right now. I have seen it offered price discounted to get rid of stock before 2013 is released. I have seen 2010 Home and Student retail licenses as low as US$80 offered online (down from US$140).

The other advantage of buying 2010 right now is that you will almost certainly qualify for the 2013 "Pre-Launch offer".  You can get a "free" copy of Office 2013 when it comes out. Depending on which 2010 bundle you buy you can get a local install 1-computer 2013 license, or 3-12 month Office 365 subscriptions.

    Thanks. 2007 came installed on old computer but install discs were included.  I'm assuming you reference to retail version is other than that?

    I purchased an "'Upgrade' Microsoft Office Small Business 2007" with a new laptop back in 2010. That laptop just crashed and I purchased a new one this weekend. When I insert the Upgrade MS Office Small Business 2007 discs and product key, it says I need a prior version of Office on the machine in order to use them. Is there any way I can obtain the Microsoft Office 2007 software so that I can use the upgrade discs I purchased (for $280) back in 2010 and have MS Office Small Business 2007 on my new laptop?

    Hi,

    If you have the Office 2007 disc along with the product key, then you may install it on the computer. As mentioned by ‘Palcouk’, check for multiple versions on the computer before installing Office 2007 Suite.

    Follow the steps to check for multiple versions of Office on the computer:

    1. Press the Windows + R key on the keyboard.
    2. Type Appwiz.cpl -> Click OK.
    3. Select if you find any other version of Office suite -> Uninstall it.

    Restart the computer and install Microsoft Office 2007 Suite by inserting the disc. If you need further assistance, reply and we will be happy to assist you further.

    Assuming a retail version, then yes, ensure you uninstall any preinstalled Office Trial first
