Unable to open Word 2013 Error: Word has stopped Working.

Original Title: $140 for ****!

I have purchased Office Home & Student 2013 and it installed perfectly fine. Yet, when I go to Word and try open a blank document out pops a box stating Microsoft Word has stopped working and I will be notified IF there is a fix. WTH! I cannot use the dang program. PLEASE help!!

    Thanks, it was the Abbyy Finereader that was causing the problem.

    Well pleased I found this discussion! Bought new PC with W8, plus Office H&S 2013, only to find Word and Excel crashed as described above whenever they were opened. PowerPoint worked fine though. After a very frustrating session of uninstalling and re-installing programmes I finally got rid of the Abby Fine Reader......success!

    I don't know where the Abby software came from though: I assume not a system pre-load, so must have arrived when I loaded a driver? Either way, it's now gone for good.

    Doug, could you please assist me also?

    I have read the articles you recommended and the advice you have given throughout these posts and nothing is working. I have spent hours trying to troubleshoot here.

    I also am getting the message "Microsoft Work has stopped working". From here, it will not allow me to click on the 'file' button to look into the 'add-ins' you mentioned.

    I don't understand what 'Safe mode' but I held down the F8 key while my computer was booting up, as recommended in one the articles, and nothing happened.

    When I go to 'accessories' and click on 'run' and type in 'winword/safe' I get this message:

    "Windows can find winword/safe. Make sure you have typed it correctly."

    Is there any advice your can offer me??

    Thanks very much I have been pulling my hair out on this one, it was the bloody Abbyy Finereader software on the Asus laptop I have removed it and instantly started to work.
