These are 2 very important questions for you to answer.  Problems and potential fixes are directly related to specific versions. MS is constantly introducing small changes to Windows and Office. If you give us specific information, we can give you specific fix suggestions.

Please remember that Windows and Office build on prior versions. So, a fix that works in an older version can often be applied to a newer version if it is adapted for changes in the menu systems.

System Information - enter MSINFO32 in start menu or run window

All information on the System Information panel is printable, the Control Panel System info is not.

First panel, System Summary presents most of the same info as Control panel system info, except for Product ID. It includes a great deal more detailed info.

This panel also provides access to details about Hardware Componenets and Software Environment

Since it "came with" the computer and runs in CTR, I'm guessing you have Office Starter.

Yes, proceed with the uninstall of the CTR. I do not expect it to mention Office Starter, but that is OK. Office Starter "lives" inside the CTR, so when you uninstall CTR, Starter is gone with it.

If yes, try these instructions to get rid of CTR, then go back to the HP page to re-install Starter.

Unable to uninstall Click2run using MS FIX IT - solution

When you try to uninstall Office click2run 2010 using kb290301 (MS FIX IT), you get an error stating problem with client virtualisation.

Solution:

Go to: Start> Run> Services.msc> Client virtualisation> properties> startup type> Disable\manual> Stop the service> Ok

Note: if you can't stop the service, you will have to restart services.msc using "Run as Admin"

Now try restarting system and then try using FIX IT from kb290301

If none of this works the only thing remaining I can suggest is to completely re-install Windows from the recovery partition. The recovery partition includes Starter.  Note, this will also wipe all of your personal document files so you MUST make a backup before you do the Windows re-install.

• which "instructions" did you follow
• the full and exact error message text

I'm getting the same problem.  I followed the instructions here:

I get a Click-2-Run Configuration Failure error when trying to Change the program. Then, when I try to Uninstall the Starter-English, I get the same thing. I then tried to Uninstall the Click-2- Run, but I didn't see the same screen shot referencing that it would also uninstall the Office Starter 2010, so I didn't think I should proceed.

Any suggestions?
