My Microsoft Word Starter 2010 won't open

My Microsoft Word Starter 2010 won't open, It was working fine yesterday but today I get the message "Microsoft Word Starter 2010 cannot be opened.  Try again or repair the product in Control Panel." I ran the repair, it completed successfully but I still can't open Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel.   Please help!

I tried clicking start, then selecting control panel, then selecting programs and features, then selecting Microsoft Word Starter 2010 English, then selecting change and then then Repair Microsoft Office Click To Run screen came up, I selected the Remove remove all Office user settings related to this product and then clicked on yes.  I was connected to the internet, the repair ran and came back and said successfully completed.  I then tried to open Microsoft Word Starter 2010 and it still wouldn't open.  Any other ideas on why this is happening.  Everything was fine yesterday and I didn't change anything knowingly.

I found this solution on an HP website. Uninstall and reinstall.

Control panel-programs and features-click on Microsoft Office Starter 2010-English.

At the top click uninstall. Click all check boxes that show up then finally click YES.

Now to reinstall: When done click on Start-All Programs-Microsoft Office Starter 2010-

Use Office Starter 2010.

This worked for me. The MS directions to repair were useless.

When you uninstall any version of Office your personal document files are not affected.

Starter does not have a time limit on it. It is your "for ever". I already posted the re-install instructions, but here they are again:

Starter is not actually installed on your computer. It runs inside of a “virtual computer” located in the “Q:\” drive and the program code is downloaded over the internet every time the program is started. Therefore there are limited things we as users can do to "fix" starter:

  1. Run an Office Repair on Starter
  2. Confirm that you have the KB 2553141 update (in theory it should be there ‘automatically’ … )
  3. Use "MS Office Manager" to re-install Starter from the Windows program Manager
  4. Re-install WINDOWS from the recovery partition, wiping all installed programs and personal data files!
  5. Phone the OEM who supposed to support Starter. They will tell you to do steps 1-4 and then lie to you and tell you to call MS!

    I only had one day of frustration trying to get Word Starter to work. I luckily came across this fix. I just followed the instructions on the HP website. Uninstall, reinstall and it was working again.

    Steve, where were you a few days ago?? I spent 3 days "repairing" and trying to find the problem and finally figured out this method. I came on to tell everyone, but you beat me to it. :) 

    I just wanted to add that I also uninstalled Microsoft Office Click-to-Run 2010 (apparently in some cases you have to delete this one too, to get it to work).

    Also, DO NOT delete Microsoft Office 2010. You need that program to be able to reinstall Starter and Click-to-Run.

    Lastly, it wouldn't let me reinstall until I restarted the computer (the uninstall doesn't complete until you restart - at least in my case it didn't.) So if you're stuck at that point, restart the computer, then go to "Start-All Programs-Microsoft Office 2010-Use Office Starter 2010", and it will automatically start installing the program again.

    Oh, and none of my files were deleted after uninstalling/reinstalling either.

    If by "stuff" you mean documents and spreadsheets you have created using Starter, the answer is NOT, they will NOT be deleted by a repair of starter.
