Hi Michael,

My problem was solved after restarting/starting SOFTWARE PROTECTION service in windows 8, that service was stopped and its behaviour was Automatic(Delayed Start). So i just start that service and error gone. YOu try this as well.

    Open "Services"

Scroll down and find "Software Protection"

    Start software protection manually.

As post above suggested, you might have to close and reopen the application after manually starting the software protection service.

    So:

    Close Word.

    Open "Services"

Scroll down and find "Software Protection"

    Start software protection manually.

    Reopen Word

Thanks for your reply. I tried this and a host of other suggestions. Nothing really worked. Then, one day, I tried to launch the application, and it finally worked! I have no idea of what cured the problem, but perhaps it was one of the required system updates for Windows 10. Anyway, the problem is resolved.
