You can change the theme in Office by clicking File > Account page in any Office product with the exception of Outlook. In Outlook, Click File > Office Account to change the theme.

There are three themes available in Office 2013:

White - Default

Light Gray

Dark Gray

    Office 2013 display is awful.  Just awful.  I work with over a dozen applications open including Word, Excel, Outlook and Skype for Business (lync) in a demanding, fast-paced environment.  The MS products all blend together across applications and within applications making it difficult to process information at a glance.  Did the design team consider the needs of business users or did they just try to come up with something cool.  I had thought that perhaps it was my declining eye sight that was the problem, so I am glad to see others also take issue with the available themes.

    And, it's not just older eyes! My company just changed health plans, and I was trying to fill out the forms, and I was having difficulty following the directions: couldn't locate "boxes" to click, etc. The HR people came to my desk to assist, and they couldn't understand why the boxes weren't there. By chance, just slowly traversing the page caused the "hand" to show up over an apparently-invisible box. The boxes were lost in the page because everything looked white! The "millenials" couldn't see what was the problem either!

    It is now 2016 and there is no fix for 2013?  So are the newer versions of Microsoft Office allowing other than white, for example the documents in Word have to be  modified one at time to get rid of the blinding white background.  Studies do show that white is one cause of eye fatigue.
