You can change the theme in Office by clicking File > Account page in any Office product with the exception of Outlook. In Outlook, Click File > Office Account to change the theme.

There are three themes available in Office 2013:

White - Default

Light Gray

Dark Gray

Office 2013 is just UGLY!!!  I am shocked that after MS got such a bad rap with Vista, that they'd blatantly ignore usability and interaction design.  It seems like someone wireframed the layout and the UI designer said "Hey, that looks cool!" and kept it at that -- it looks like a wireframe for an app, not a finished product.

MICROSOFT -- I hope you're paying really close attention to these comments.  I will NOT be deploying this to any of my users.  My users want improvements, not this junk.  What was the idea?  Were you trying to make a one-size-fits-all UI?  It's HORRIBLE!!!

FIX IT!!!... before everyone else eats your lunch.  The market share is your to LOSE.

Thanks Michael. But that is the problem!  The three themes are virtually the same and provide very little improvement to the pale and bland appearance of Office 2013 programs on-screen.

Thank you for the feedback on Office’s new look. We are actively collecting, sorting and reading through feedback on Office 2013’s design and User Experience. As the audience for Office 2013 grows, we are being mindful of patterns and pain points that emerge from user feedback. While we do not have any additional Themes planned at this time, it is an issue we are watching very closely.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if users could choose between a nice selection of vivid colours? After all, the new MS logo is BLUE! Why do we get such a vivid choice of system colours during a new Win 8 Pro installation, then get the new Office 2013's dull, dull greys or eye-tearing white? Don't the Windows development team talk with the Office team?

My guess is that MS will roll out a better colour selection in the first Service Pack.
