You can change the theme in Office by clicking File > Account page in any Office product with the exception of Outlook. In Outlook, Click File > Office Account to change the theme.

There are three themes available in Office 2013:

White - Default

Light Gray

Dark Gray

Unfortunately I too am having the same readability problem everyone else is.  Hopefully they realize that having a better appearance to the interface isn't just about making it pretty, it is about our ability to use it, our ability to automatically have eyes go to certain parts of the screen we associate with certain functionality, often times based on the color or eye texture of screen/window components.

This is so like my first word processor in the DOS environment and while DOS may be nostalgic for MS, it is nauseating for the bulk of us.

Please listen to the users - whoops just realized that some of this thread is 1.5 y old??

This past was in Dec. 2012.   Now it is May 21st. and nothing has changed.

I just got office 2013.  The UI is TERRIBLE!!!!    How can you expect people to work with this?  The people who tested it must be color blind or on drugs.  There is not visual separation and it is impossible to work on.   Work is not called vacation because it is not fun, this new office suite makes it even worse.   I'm going back to 2007 where it is free and I can see.

    Hiii,

You can also change your theme  in another way,

    1. Click on File  at the top left corner.
    2. Then click on Account.
    3. You are able to see theme setting on your monitor screen. Three options are available – White default, Light Gray & Dark Gray.

press OK twice then save changes All office 2013 theme  colors will have changed.
