Error 1920. Service osppsvc failed to start

I obtained Microsoft Officew Professional Plus 2010 for home use via the Home Use Program. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. When I try loading Office I get the following error message:

Error 1920. Service 'Office Software Protection Platform' (osppsvc) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

I have administrator privileges on my computer. So I need help resolving this issue.

Open Run (Press Windows key + R) > type services.msc and click on OK

On the services MMC window right-click on Office Software Protection Platform and select Properties

Select the LOG ON tab > change the ‘Log on as’ information from ‘This Account’ (Network Service) to ‘Local System Account’

Click on Apply and OK

    I too would like to know how you add "Network Service" account to the local admins group?  Please.

    I get the "Microsoft Office Professional 2010 ...did not complete successfully" message, when I tried to Uninstal, Repair, and Reinstall using the OEM Disks. 

    When I try to use one of the Office products, like Excel, Word or Access, The Configure screen comes up and at the end of it I get the same "...did not complete" message.

    My OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform service is Started and Log on as Local System.  I have changed the sharring on all MSOffice folders to everyone full control.  Still cannot use the Office products.  

    SOLUTION THAT WORKED: 

        Daniel Jacks solution of November 1, 2010 did the trick. After trying everything else adding the Network Service and Permission to the "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT**AppID**registry" worked.

    Try it again and make sure you follow the below steps correctly

    1 Add Network Service Account and give full Control permission to following folders

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared*OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform* and C:Program data(hidden folder)*Microsoft*

    Right Click  on the folder OfficeSoftwareProtection Platform from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared and Microsoftfrom**C:Program data(hidden folder) Properties > Security > Edit > Add > Type Network Service > OK > Check the Full control box > Apply and OK.

    1. Add Network Service account and give full control permission to the registry entry HKEY_CALASSES_ROOT*AppID*

    Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*AppID* registry >Right Click on the folder > Permissions > Add > TypeNETWORK SERVICE > OK > Check Full Control > Apply > OK

    Now try re-installing the Office suite if it does not work.. dont waste your time, you need speak to someone to help you. Call Microsoft phone support at 1800-936-5700
