I obtained Microsoft Officew Professional Plus 2010 for home use via the Home Use Program. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. When I try loading Office I get the following error message:

Error 1920. Service 'Office Software Protection Platform' (osppsvc) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

I have administrator privileges on my computer. So I need help resolving this issue.

Open Run (Press Windows key + R) > type services.msc and click on OK

On the services MMC window right-click on Office Software Protection Platform and select Properties

Select the LOG ON tab > change the ‘Log on as’ information from ‘This Account’ (Network Service) to ‘Local System Account’

Click on Apply and OK

1 Add Network Service Account and give full Control permission to folders

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared*OfficeSoftwareProtectionPlatform* and C:Program data(hidden folder)*Microsoft*

    1. Add Network Service account and give full control permission to the registry entry HKEY_CALASSES_ROOT*AppID*

Now try re-installing the Office suite

Hats off to aleksdj and The2bagod for posting the solution. I had faced the same probelm while installing a Home use version of Office 2010. Microsoft Level 1 and Level 2 [ I believe from research group] support spent approximately 4 hours attempting to solve this problem but they could not. In fact the second level engineer wanted 2-hour blocks of time on "multiple days" to sign onto my laptop to resolve this problem. Aleksdj's stepwise procedures solved my problem in minutes. Its time Office support get their act together in understanding and resolvsing such customer issues.

    1. Downloaded and installed a free Registry cleaner
    2. Cleaned the registry and rebooted the PC

Which registry cleaner did you use?
