I was attempting to install Microsoft Office Professional Plus on a Windows 7 64-bit Enterprise system. This was a first time new install, not an upgrade. During the install the power went out. When it came back on, I tried to install Office again and
got the "Office encountered an error" message. I've tried a few fixes, including renaming the Help folder, without any luck. I then used the Microsoft Fix It tool for Office 2010 suites, which can be found by going to the following link and scrolling down
towards the bottom of the page:

After the tool was installed and ran, I restarted the computer and installed Office without any issues. Just thought I'd share what worked for me. :)
I bought a computer 64 bit win 7, used the trial of home/student office 2007, put on the trial office pro 2010, bought a license and couldn't activate it. Uninstalled office, incomplete uninstall. Tried all the tricks here with msiexec, renaming help, etc
to no avail. Even tried rolling back to an earlier restore point. Was ready to roll windows back to an out of the box state and tried this as a last resort. Worked like a champ!!!!!
