Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 encountered an error during setup.

I've finally gotten Office 2003 out of the way so that I can install 2010. Unfortunately, every time I try, this error appears.

Helpful as ever, no extra information (not even a mere error code) is provided.

Does anybody have any ideas as to what is going on and how I can remedy this? Please don't make my go back to 2003... it's more than a little outdated for a Windows 7 computer.

Try renaming the ‘Microsoft Help’ folder and then install Office.

Follow the steps given below to rename the Microsoft Help Folder:

1.    Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run > Type %Programdata% and Click OK

  1.    Rename the 'Microsoft Help' folder as 'Microsoft Help. OLD'

Now try installing Office and check if it works.

Finally got it installed. Step-by-step guide for other users who encounter the same issue:

  1. Create a new administrator account.
  2. Log on and launch the installer.

If things don't quite work perfectly now:

  1. If you recieve errors accessing your ProgramData folder, use the TakeOwnership registry hack to take control of the entire ProgramData folder, and if needed, create a "Microsoft Office" folder with "Microsoft Office 2010 Tools" inside it under %programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu.
  2. Your error may return at the end of the installation, but don't worry, it's finished and Office is now installed. Switch user (don't log off!) and go back to your own user. Double-check that everything works. Now, to turn off your computer, press and hold the power button for ~five seconds. This will force the computer to shut down instantly, which will close the installer with the error without giving it the opportunity to roll back its changes.

    I had installation problems for over a month...I did everything to remove old files, see microsoft fix it to uninstall old versions.....then the solution was to rename the Microsoft Help folder...WOW so easy...Thanks a bunch! it literally took me 2 months to finally find a forum that had the right answer....trust me, this is what works.....THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

    Log off from the normal account and log on to Administrator account and try installing Office

    To disable the build-in Administrator account, follow these steps:

    Log off from the Admin account and perform the steps in current user account

    1. Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
    2. In the search results list, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator.
    3. When you are prompted by User Account Control, click Continue.
    4. At the command prompt, type net user administrator /active:no , and then pressENTER. 
    5. Type net user administrator <Password>, and then press ENTER.

    Note: Please replace the <Password> tag with your passwords which you want to set to administrator account.

    1. Type exit, and then press ENTER.

    Admin account is disabled

    This is for Dell Computers in networked environment, if this not your situation this answer will not apply.....Windows 7 Professional 32 bit with Dell omci Client Version 7 or lower....

    Be aware that omci client version 8 is a different structure than 7

    After extensive research (across multiple forums) the problem lies within the Dell omci Client and Windows 7 Pro. This paticular problem is for a dell workstations only. Please see the resource:**http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2102327**
