Excel 2010 crashes when using print preview button and adding headers/footers

I am using Office 2010 Professional with Windows 7.  The installation was successful and I have no other issues with any Office programs except Excel 2010.  Whenever I use the print preview button on the Quick Access Toolbar to check the print preview before printing, or use headers/footers to add these before printing, Excel crashes and forces a restart when I next go to save the document.  It may allow me to do up to 3 print previews before I go to save the document and it crashes and attempts to recover the data or just shuts Excel down after a few times.

All other Office program functions work fine and I have checked my printer driver with a Microsoft utility and it reports no issues.

Can anyone help?

    Patch Thursday (3/10/2011) had several Office 2010 updates.  These apparently changed the behaviour of the 'bug'.  For me (2nd above) Print makes the program simply quit when I try to save instead of reporting the file is corrupt and making me quit.  Is big brother trying to fix the problem?

    My guess is NO.  He is just generating more and different problems.

    I have the same problem,  even with one sheet spreadsheets,

    Tried all the above , WIN7 6bit clean install, office clean install, still happens.

    Another user with the same problem.

    Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)

    Office 2010 Professional (64-bit)

    HP Photosmart D5360

    (best printer I ever had-would give up Excel before changing printers)

    This seems to be typical Microsoft response.

    Have discovered this thread and read through all the comments with a wry twisted grin on my face, nodding to myself in appreciation of the complete frustration shared with everyone else - I too have been experiencing all of these issues.

    • Windows 7
    • Office 2010 Professional
    • HP Photosmart C8180 printer

    My quickfix has included (with limited success) to save the file as an Excel 97-2003 workbook and continue - sometimes it works, sometimes not.  I have learnt to complete all content on the file prior to setting the print settings.

    Bill - as and when an update is available, I (and many others) will no doubt be in your debt.

    Thank you.  The user that is having the problem in my area changed her default printer from the HP Photosmart C4200 printer to RichoMP4000 Copier - I don't have driver version.   So far she has not had the crash problem moving between print preview and then back out to the document.     I will get the print drive details.  Susan
