Office Keeps Re-Installing When I Try To Open Word, Excel...etc.

Ok here is what you all need to do. Google "Subacl.exe" You need to get the msi and the bat file and download them both to your machine and run the bat file as an admin. This will reset all your registry permissions to the way they were out of the box. I had this same problem and this did the trick.

I'm not sure subacl.exe exists anymore. If you Google it, it takes you to subinacl.exe. This is not an easy tool to use, nor is it guaranteed to work. I have tried resetting the registry permissions using similar techniques and the areas of the registry blocked after failed Office installations resist any changes at all.

Using an install repair (which was also extremely useful for fixing Win XP) is pretty straightforward and a cure for most problems, including repeated reconfiguring of Windows Live Mail. Just be aware that as a precaution some software such as AV software and microsoft .net software do not always survive the repair.

I've tried a bunch of stuff but I've found that it's not the software itself, well it is but it's when it goes through the start up menu when that annoying window comes up.

Sooo what I've done is go to the root file in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12 and then scroll down to Microsoft Excel/Word or whatever Office programme you want to use and open it from there and its fine. I also right clicked on it and chose pin to start menu so I can open it up from there without the anger-provoking "windows is configuring......" window pops up and makes you wait what feels like an eternity to enter into the programme.

So it's not exactly solving the problem, it's side-stepping it. But I'm happy.
