Office Keeps Re-Installing When I Try To Open Word, Excel...etc.

Everytime  I try to open office 2007, it keeps re-installing the software and takes a good while before it opens. 

This happens for all programs in the suite; excel, word...etc.  I am using Vista, can anyone please help?

Download, install and run the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility:

    I finally resolved the problem.  I installed Windows XP SP3.  No problems anymore with office and all the 2010 products.  This has plagued me on my home laptop for over 18 months.  These kind of problems are the reasons that large companies don't make the move to anything newer than XP.

    PS. I am a Microsoft SQL .Net backend developer at Bloomberg in NYC.

    I have this same problem on my daughter's laptop.  Dell Studio with Vista 32 bit; Office 2007 Home & Student - which was ordered with and came with the Dell laptop.  I have re-installled Office a few times now.  After I reinstall Office ... the problem is fixed, but returns once the recommended Windows updates are applied.  This is very frustrating.  Seems like there are quite a few people suffering, and most frustrating that I can't find a sensible resolution from Microsoft.

    Hopefully someone can report a solution that works.

    Hi, I am having similar troubles on a relatively new install (a few months) of Win 7 pro and MS Office 2007 standard. I have no prior versions of office.

    Specifically, when I try your regedit I get an error message - perhaps beacuse the string is so long that it wraps and I have been unable to maximize the regedit wiondow ... any suggestions ...?

    I have the same problem with Office 2007 (Student & Home).  I used the MS clean-up utility for both 2003 and 2007 versions of Office just to be sure. I also tried the repair function, to no avail. My OS is XP Home sp3.

    I tried your suggested fix:

    reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0*word*\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1.

    This worked for Word, but when I tried it with Excel (reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0*Excel*\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1.) The problem persists. Is this an incorrect registry entry?
