Office Keeps Re-Installing When I Try To Open Word, Excel...etc.

Everytime  I try to open office 2007, it keeps re-installing the software and takes a good while before it opens. 

This happens for all programs in the suite; excel, word...etc.  I am using Vista, can anyone please help?

Download, install and run the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility:

    For me (WIN 10):

    Office gets update files in a folder:

    C:\Windows\Installer\

    so when you start office and the update begins it will probably

    open a  blue screen with an OK/CANCEL 

    dialog and if you click options or whatever it will tell you the 

    path of the update file, for example:

    C:\Windows\Installer\46d99f33.msi

    Delete this file and it will stop trying to update when it opens

    It is not at all clear from inula2k's post of January 12, 2010 just what his problem was.

    I would suggest that you start a new thread in which you advise what version of Windows and of Office you are using or trying to use, how you are going about it and the exact text of any error messages that appear.

    BEFORE YOU REMOVE OFFICE MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE PRODUCT KEY FOR IT AS YOU WILL NEED IT TO DOWNLOAD THE SOFTWARE.  You can check the validity of the Product Key at the site from which ManuelRoyEP says you can download the software.

    If you do not have the Product Key to hand,  but Office is still installed, you may be able to get the product key by using the free Belarc Advisor which will create an inventory of your machine, including the Product Keys of the installed software.

    Repairing the Office installation as detailed in the Knowledge Base article at:

    is more likely to fix problems than removing and re-installing.

    Please try to identify your Office Suite by going to Control Panel > Programs and Feature

    • for Home and Student you should only have Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote
    • for Home and Business you should only have WEPO and Outlook
    • for Professional, you should have WEPOO plus Access and Publisher.

    Now, please try to check what applications are enabled at

    Start Menu > All programs > Microsoft Office

    if you have applications that should not be installed, the problem lies on the installation of a trial of Office Professional which can be enabled when you installed Home and Student and Home and Business.

    If this is your case, please follow the instruction on Method 4: Remove Microsoft Office 2007 suites manually

    and reinstall using your Product Key.
