How do I create an address book in Word 2010

I have tried numerous help searches but cannot find an answer on creating an address book (or is it contacts) in Word 2010. While using WordPerfect it was simple. I just clicked on "tools" and then "address book" selected an individual and then clicked "insert" and the name appeared in the recipient box of the envelope window. In word you have to manually enter a recipient address. How do I go about creating a list of contacts and addresses so I don't have to manually type in the recipient's name and address when I am creating an envelope?

There is no address book or contacts in Word. It is Outlook that is the email client which has the contacts database. If you don’t have Outlook, what do you use as your email client? That may have what you are looking for.

If you have Word 2010 Starter, then you can't customize the QAT.

The keyboard shortcut Alt+Shift+D inserts a DATE field using the currently selected default date format. If you want just date text rather than a field, you have to immediately unlink it with Ctrl+Shift+F9. Greg's macro is more efficient, however, because it inserts the date as text to begin with.

A possibly better approach for letters, however, is to use a letter template that includes the CREATEDATE field. Whenever you create a new document based on this template, the field will be updated to the current date and will never update thereafter (the template retains the date it was created, but new documents have their own creation dates).

For more on creating letter templates, see http://WordFAQs.mvps.org/Letterhead.htm.

If you see them in the toolbar, but they are disabled, then they are not available in your current situation. If the "arrows" you selected are WebGoBack and WebGoForward, they are available only when you have clicked on hyperlinks. More likely the "arrows" you refer to are Undo and Redo, which are available only if you have performed some action in the document.

Hi, and thank you for such quick response in this thread.... Ok, I did place the QAT below....and clicked on some things I wanted to show in it...however the address book is not showing....also the arrows for back and forward are not either, all of them are grayed out in that toolbar but are plainly shown to the right in the commands.   How can I get them moved into the tool bar?  Thanks again for your help. Suzanne.
