Disable or Uninstall Skydrive? Is it possible?

Hi All,

I've read virtually every "solution" to the basic question of how to get rid of Skydrive (from hotmail, from computer, from whatever) and I have not yet found a solution that works.  I've spent a lot of time on the Windows Live Hotmail forums and their staff is useless.  I have never come across someone who has done it.   I have 2 questions:

(1) Has anyone EVER actually disabled/uninstalled Skydrive and, if so, how.

(2) If the above is not possible, how does one bypass Skydrive/Web Apps and simply download/save a MS Word document as we used to -- with a click.  Skydrive is (a) so cumbersome and (b) I DO NOT want my documents saved on the web.

I am already switching to gmail, and will slowly phase out the hotmail account I've had for nearly 20 years, but this will take some time....

I am not a computer wiz, so please, any "solutions" need to be in plain English.

Steve...Good News...I figured out how to stop it opening up automatically in SkyDrive

In your hotmail account go to options.

Select: Active View Settings

Select: Hide Photos and Video Previews.  Then click NO for the question:  Do you want interactive updates from Websites you have accounts for?

It worked...Let me know if it worked for you.

Well as I said before - I use WLM and have a ASkydrive account. When i send a picture I get an option to create a photo album on Skydrive OR NOT. I just choose the "NOT" option and the photo attaches in the normal way.

Or, you could actually DO it the "old" way - create your new email message and attach the picture. Just like any other file...

    How do I turn it off?  

     I cannot open an MS Word document any other way except with Skydrive -- and it is extremely cumbersome.  When I click on download (for MS Word document) it automatically opens it through Skydrive, saves it on Skydrive, and only through a series of cumbersome steps can I get it to save as a normal MS Word document.   

    I get that I don't have to use hotmail, but I've been using if for almost 20 years and as my email address is central to what I do -- it is pretty key.  Want to keep hotmail email account; but also want to be able to open an MS Word document outside of Skydrive (as I have done for over a decade).  Currently, I cannot, and I am hardly alone judging by the ton of similar queries on Windows Live forums.    I also think it is reasonable to expect, given that I am hardly alone, a decent answer from Hotmail.   I get that it is "free," but I'm not sure this is an excuse for no customer service since it is free in the same sense that television is -- we, the customer, pay for it through advertising.

    What forces you to "only download using SkyDrive"?  Do you mean you can't create a Word document on your hard drive?
