Disable or Uninstall Skydrive? Is it possible?

Hi All,

I've read virtually every "solution" to the basic question of how to get rid of Skydrive (from hotmail, from computer, from whatever) and I have not yet found a solution that works.  I've spent a lot of time on the Windows Live Hotmail forums and their staff is useless.  I have never come across someone who has done it.   I have 2 questions:

(1) Has anyone EVER actually disabled/uninstalled Skydrive and, if so, how.

(2) If the above is not possible, how does one bypass Skydrive/Web Apps and simply download/save a MS Word document as we used to -- with a click.  Skydrive is (a) so cumbersome and (b) I DO NOT want my documents saved on the web.

I am already switching to gmail, and will slowly phase out the hotmail account I've had for nearly 20 years, but this will take some time....

I am not a computer wiz, so please, any "solutions" need to be in plain English.

Many thanks, Steve

Steve...Good News...I figured out how to stop it opening up automatically in SkyDrive

In your hotmail account go to options.

Select: Active View Settings

Select: Hide Photos and Video Previews.  Then click NO for the question:  Do you want interactive updates from Websites you have accounts for?

It worked...Let me know if it worked for you.

Well as I said before - I use WLM and have a ASkydrive account. When i send a picture I get an option to create a photo album on Skydrive OR NOT. I just choose the "NOT" option and the photo attaches in the normal way.

Or, you could actually DO it the "old" way - create your new email message and attach the picture. Just like any other file...

Ok, my problem has to do with sending photos to my friends and family.  Sky Drive makes it almost impossible for them to download my photos.

Almost? Either they CAN download photos or not......what happens when they try?

I am also extremely frustrated with Skydrive and want it removed from my computer.

Skydrive is making it impossible for me to use hotmail on firefox. Hotmail works fine for explorer, but I don't want the obnoxious ads that come with explorer, or the greater chance of viruses or other security problems.

When I try to reply to a message, hotmail inserts some extra characters in the To and CC lines. then it tells me it can't send the email because those characters are not in the right format. If I remove the characters it still will not send the email.

Hotmail also then freezes entirely and I cannot open any message or go into any folder and I have to close the program and re-open it to try again. Which produces the same error. I have also tried restarting my computer, which did not help. Refreshing the page with F5 does not help either.

It is also producing a pop-up window when I try to insert text into the body. It looks like it is the text from another email already sent, along with code for formatting the message. It asks if I want to overwrite the text or cancel my attempt to insert new text. Either way, it freezes hotmail and I cannot send anything. The phrase Skydrive is at the start of the pop-up, making me think that this program is not working properly.

My email address at the top of the message screen is also appearing in very large letters, and covers part of the To line. I can't change any information that is under the address. Changing the size of the information on the page using CTRL+ or CTRL- does not change the large address.

When I try to send a new message, the letter v is inserted in the To line. It is covered by the extra large email address, and I cannot remove it. It is also automatically filling the body with text from a previous message. If I try to insert new text, I get the Skydrive pop-up window again, asking if I want to overwrite the text in the window or cancel. Either way, it does not work and Hotmail again freezes entirely.

The Skydrive link works, and I can go to the Skydrive screen and back into Hotmail, but cannot do anything with Hotmail.

Also, if I try to reply to a message from an address with .com or another similar ending, I am sent to the website of that address, so clicking on a message from NYTimes.com sends me to the New York Times page, and not a Hotmail reply screen. But the subject line remains useless, even for the same NYTimes message, and I cannot open any messages or folders. Nothing happens if I click on a name that does not include .com.
