Disable or Uninstall Skydrive? Is it possible?

Hi All,

I've read virtually every "solution" to the basic question of how to get rid of Skydrive (from hotmail, from computer, from whatever) and I have not yet found a solution that works. I've spent a lot of time on the Windows Live Hotmail forums and their staff is useless. I have never come across someone who has done it. I have 2 questions:

(1) Has anyone EVER actually disabled/uninstalled Skydrive and, if so, how.

(2) If the above is not possible, how does one bypass Skydrive/Web Apps and simply download/save a MS Word document as we used to -- with a click. Skydrive is (a) so cumbersome and (b) I DO NOT want my documents saved on the web.

I am already switching to gmail, and will slowly phase out the hotmail account I've had for nearly 20 years, but this will take some time....

I am not a computer wiz, so please, any "solutions" need to be in plain English.

Steve...Good News...I figured out how to stop it opening up automatically in SkyDrive

In your hotmail account go to options.

Select: Active View Settings

Select: Hide Photos and Video Previews. Then click NO for the question: Do you want interactive updates from Websites you have accounts for?

It worked...Let me know if it worked for you.

Well as I said before - I use WLM and have a ASkydrive account. When i send a picture I get an option to create a photo album on Skydrive OR NOT. I just choose the "NOT" option and the photo attaches in the normal way.

Or, you could actually DO it the "old" way - create your new email message and attach the picture. Just like any other file...

I've just read through this and I find there's ONE major issue that seems to have been overlooked and it seems to be the fact that most people with the sky drive issue are using their browser to access the hotmail server where sky drive is installed and has been pointed out. It's a server side program & you cannot delete it! You may be able to tweak it to disable a few bits & bobs but it's been pointed out by a m$ technician in this thread that it CANNOT be disabled!

One guy seems to be using the (WLM) Windows Live Mail program that is available via M$ Essentials (available via Windows updates) but he doesn't seem to realise the browser/server side issue.

The simple answer to get around the sky drive issue is don't use your browser to access your emails. Use WLM and set your emails up in that without all the bells & whistles! I've been using it for years without many issues at all. It's better than Outlook & as far as I'm aware was a replacement for Outlook Express but don't quote me on that.

In summary; download & install Windows Live Mail to your computer, set up your emails via that & work as normal :) (it'll download all your emails etc from the server and there's import & export options too :)

If you go into hotmail options follow these prompts:

Heading: Writing email

Select: attachments

Select: Always send as attachments (middle selection)

This doesn't disable skydrive however it should send attachments and such that will not be up loaded into skydrive.

As well if you don't want items on skydrive, simply delete them.

Skydrive doesn't get involved unless it's a picture being sent from the User's Pictures folder.

A Word document should be attached just like a normal attachment.

If it's going through Skydrive then your user is doing something wrong.
