Disable or Uninstall Skydrive? Is it possible?

Hi All,

I've read virtually every "solution" to the basic question of how to get rid of Skydrive (from hotmail, from computer, from whatever) and I have not yet found a solution that works.  I've spent a lot of time on the Windows Live Hotmail forums and their staff is useless.  I have never come across someone who has done it.   I have 2 questions:

(1) Has anyone EVER actually disabled/uninstalled Skydrive and, if so, how.

(2) If the above is not possible, how does one bypass Skydrive/Web Apps and simply download/save a MS Word document as we used to -- with a click.  Skydrive is (a) so cumbersome and (b) I DO NOT want my documents saved on the web.

I am already switching to gmail, and will slowly phase out the hotmail account I've had for nearly 20 years, but this will take some time....

I am not a computer wiz, so please, any "solutions" need to be in plain English.

Steve...Good News...I figured out how to stop it opening up automatically in SkyDrive

In your hotmail account go to options.

Select: Active View Settings

Select: Hide Photos and Video Previews.  Then click NO for the question:  Do you want interactive updates from Websites you have accounts for?

It worked...Let me know if it worked for you.

Well as I said before - I use WLM and have a ASkydrive account. When i send a picture I get an option to create a photo album on Skydrive OR NOT. I just choose the "NOT" option and the photo attaches in the normal way.

Or, you could actually DO it the "old" way - create your new email message and attach the picture. Just like any other file...

    Hi to all

    I never go on these things unless I know something useful

    a) the guy chatting to steve about options for disabling skydrive is totally correct, however,

    b ) if you have more than one pc or laptop at which you access your hotmail and this includes blackberry or any phone, then you will need to do the same disable process on every port, I have it on 4 lap tops and 4 pcs and it took a little while but boy was it worth it to get rid of the fiend called skydrive

    c) it would appear that the originating email defaults to skydrive for send if you have not done this

    finally

    inventor of skydrive if you are listening, did you mean to just slow the whole process of emails down or are you just a bit slow yourself?

    I cant see any other reason for its existance

    Yes, I agree. Looking back at the OP there's no mention of M$ Outlook so IMHO the thread should've been moved to the appropriate forum by a mod but nevermind all is well now :) At least anyone "googling" the issue can land here and hopefully be put right which is how most ppl replying probably got here (like me). I personally had no idea which forum I'm posting in, I just got stuck in.

    I'd say it's resolved :)

    I've just read through this and I find there's ONE major issue that seems to have been overlooked and it seems to be the fact that most people with the sky drive issue are using their browser to access the hotmail server where sky drive is installed and has been pointed out. It's a server side program & you cannot delete it!

    Your suggestion as to what has been overlooked may be correct.  However most people answering here in the "Installing and Activating Office" forum would be assuming that the questioners were having problems with this skydrive and OFFICE i.e. Outlook.

    If the problem is for people using Hotmail via a browser and not via Outlook then the question should have been asked on the Hotmail Fora.  :-(
