Disable or Uninstall Skydrive? Is it possible?

Hi All,

I've read virtually every "solution" to the basic question of how to get rid of Skydrive (from hotmail, from computer, from whatever) and I have not yet found a solution that works.  I've spent a lot of time on the Windows Live Hotmail forums and their staff is useless.  I have never come across someone who has done it.   I have 2 questions:

(1) Has anyone EVER actually disabled/uninstalled Skydrive and, if so, how.

(2) If the above is not possible, how does one bypass Skydrive/Web Apps and simply download/save a MS Word document as we used to -- with a click.  Skydrive is (a) so cumbersome and (b) I DO NOT want my documents saved on the web.

I am already switching to gmail, and will slowly phase out the hotmail account I've had for nearly 20 years, but this will take some time....

I am not a computer wiz, so please, any "solutions" need to be in plain English.

Steve...Good News...I figured out how to stop it opening up automatically in SkyDrive

In your hotmail account go to options.

Select: Active View Settings

Select: Hide Photos and Video Previews.  Then click NO for the question:  Do you want interactive updates from Websites you have accounts for?

It worked...Let me know if it worked for you.

Well as I said before - I use WLM and have a ASkydrive account. When i send a picture I get an option to create a photo album on Skydrive OR NOT. I just choose the "NOT" option and the photo attaches in the normal way.

Or, you could actually DO it the "old" way - create your new email message and attach the picture. Just like any other file...

    I AM PREPARING TO STOP USING WIN LIVE MAIL AND START ON OUTLOOK.  ANY SUCCESS ON DISABLING SKYDRIVE AND SENDING ATTACHEMENTS THE OLD WAY?

    Ok, my problem has to do with sending photos to my friends and family.  Sky Drive makes it almost impossible for them to download my photos.  I have tried to delete Sky Drive but it is still there.  I really want this gone.  Thoughts?

    I have NO Problems with Skydrive AT ALL. Using WLM 2011 on Windows 7, if I attach a picture by clicking on the "Attach File" icon there's a link that comes up in the new mail message "Change to Album" If I don't click on the link, I don't get an album. Skydrive is not involved AT ALL - the picture just attaches like a normal attachment. Simple.

    All other files just simply attach as normal attachments

    An explanation is:

    When I try to send a picture from my picture viewing software, WLM opens with the photo already in a skydrive album. There is no option not to send it like this. The reason I use this method of sending photos is that the application automatically reduces the size of the pictuire to send it.

    Now skydrive is really messing me up. See what I mean Gordon?

    Note that just because you have Skydrive doesn't mean you have to "put things" in it. You can still "insert" and "attach" photos as you did before and Skydrive won't be involved. The new problem with 2011 is the default action for the right click option is to use Skydrive. Skydrive is used whenever you choose "Photo Email" instead of "attach" or "insert".

    I understand that if you have Windows Live Photo Gallery installed as well, you can use it's right-click option instead:

    "(A.) Live Photo Gallery (one or more pictures)

    1. Open Photo Gallery
    2. Select picture(s)
    • use the Control key to choose another folder in WLPG to view and select another folder's pictures
    1. Click drop down arrow on the Photo Email option and choose the item 'Send photos as attachments'

    (B.) Explorer (one picture)

    1. Select a single picture
    2. Rt Click and Choose Preview (opens WLPG viewer)
    3. Click Photo Email down arrow and choose the option to 'Send photos as attachments'."
