Disable or Uninstall Skydrive? Is it possible?

Hi All,

I've read virtually every "solution" to the basic question of how to get rid of Skydrive (from hotmail, from computer, from whatever) and I have not yet found a solution that works. I've spent a lot of time on the Windows Live Hotmail forums and their staff is useless. I have never come across someone who has done it. I have 2 questions:

(1) Has anyone EVER actually disabled/uninstalled Skydrive and, if so, how.

(2) If the above is not possible, how does one bypass Skydrive/Web Apps and simply download/save a MS Word document as we used to -- with a click. Skydrive is (a) so cumbersome and (b) I DO NOT want my documents saved on the web.

I am already switching to gmail, and will slowly phase out the hotmail account I've had for nearly 20 years, but this will take some time....

I am not a computer wiz, so please, any "solutions" need to be in plain English.

Steve...Good News...I figured out how to stop it opening up automatically in SkyDrive

In your hotmail account go to options.

Select: Active View Settings

Select: Hide Photos and Video Previews. Then click NO for the question: Do you want interactive updates from Websites you have accounts for?

It worked...Let me know if it worked for you.

Well as I said before - I use WLM and have a ASkydrive account. When i send a picture I get an option to create a photo album on Skydrive OR NOT. I just choose the "NOT" option and the photo attaches in the normal way.

Or, you could actually DO it the "old" way - create your new email message and attach the picture. Just like any other file...

When I click to download document (from an email someone sends me) it automatically opens it through Skydrive (World Web App). I am given no choice -- if I were there would be no problem. There appears to be no other way of opening the document -- it is the default (and the only way). It started doing this when I was "upgraded" to Windows Live (a new version of hotmail). I did not request this upgrade. There is no other way to open the document that I can figure out. My sense, from reading all the complaints, is that this varies a bit depending on which version of Office one has. But I see no way around it, and it is unbelievably cumbersome just to save it on my computer (my hard-drive) that I can't believe people aren't abandoning hotmail in droves. I'd really like to get rid of Skydrive completely, but for now I'd settle for an easy way to download MS word attachments -- which I do by the dozens on a daily basis.

When I click on the attachment it automatically opens in SkyDrive. I have not installed any software recently. It started on my laptop yesteday when I checked my emails an opened attachments and then it happened on my desktop today. So I do not have an option to open, save or cancel like I used to be prompted.
