My data source is an xlsx file and one field (PictureLocation) has the full path name of each jpg file I want to merge into a document. I use this merge function: {INCLUDEPICTURE "MERGEFIELD PictureLocation}"} which works fine except I only get a box with a small red x in upper left-hand corner where the picture should be. I have tried F9, but to no avail. What am I doing wrong or what have I set incorrectly? I use VISTA and OFFICE 2007. dottybee

What is in the PictureLocation field?
The filepath separators need to be duplicated \ or you need to use / as a separator.
1- You said you had said up a field (column) for the picture names. It's up to you whether you put the entire file path or just the filename.
2 - I then insert the Photo (or in your case "picture") merge field in front of the .jpg in the IncludePicture field.
If you've included the entire file path, then you would substitute the merge field for the entire picture path in the IncludePicture field.

Responding to your above message line by line
1- My data source column called pictures - I removed the entire file path and input filename.jpg and also filename without the extension. Either the same results occur. I get field calculation error.
2 - I think you're talking about the main document and this sentence makes no sense to me. so maybe this is where the communication problem is. I can't go forward with this.

Could you be specific about the proper way to enter the file names in the data source. I think I followed the direction exactly so maybe there's something additional to add? Where exactly does it belong?
Insert the merge fields where they belong! I still don't know how you have entered the filenames in your mail merge data source, so I can't be specific there, but you need to get the non-photo merge fields out of the IncludePicture field and put the "picture" merge field where it belongs.
