Transfer license to a new computer

in start type cmd

in dos go to office products

cd.. goes back in the tree

cd [folder name] goes up

goto c:\program files with cd.. cd.. until you reach the c:\ prompt

then

cd program files   or cd program files (x86) in case of 64-bit

cd microsoft office

cd office14

cscript ospp.vbs /status  (you might want to enter this twice as somethimes an error is generated first)

you will see something like

processing

it will show what license you have, for ex. retail (means you have a box somewhere)

last 5 characters of license are shown (remember these)

then exit

in windows explorer now, click on the c:

then search these 5 last digits

a string of 6 x 5 characters will show, the last 5  x 5 is your product key code

Exactly what "security license" did you buy?  If it is not a MS product, this is the wrong place to be asking, you should go to the vendor site.

Search for previous answers to similar question. If you have an error code or the exact text of an error message type it into the input field below the “Find Answers / Ask A Question” radio button. When you get replies, if any provide good information, but not a full answer, you can click on the green “YES” button on the left side of the screen.

If you get an answer that provides the fix, click on the the green “”MARK IT” button on the bottom right of the screen to “pay” for the reply.

File Sharing

It is simple enough. First thing to remember is never post anything on a file share (share being the key word!) site (public or private) that you wouldn't be willing to see posted on a public bill board.

Create a "sanitized" version of the file that does not contain any sensitive personal or corporate information

Pick a file share service: DropBox, Skydrive, Fyels, Ge.tt, Crate, to name a few) and sign up for a FREE account

Follow their instructions to upload the file and to mark is as public shared

Copy the link to the file

Paste it in the post back here.

I purchased a two year security license just this year, and bought a new computer last month.  I want to put the two year license on this computer.   Sister Mary Jane Hebert

Thank you, this was helpful. I am still not sure what kind of license I have, but I believe that I have the one that is allowed to be transfered. I installed a trial copy first, to be on the safe side, now I need just to switch to my own license but I am not able to do this. Do you know how to switch from a trial license to a regular license?

In general, I find it quite difficult to find this information withint the product manuals, which I find quite bad. I strongly believe that a guide describing how to transfer licenses is needed, both in wind7 and office. I have the same problem with transfering windows 7. I am trying to transfer both Win 7 and Microsoft office, but it is impossible to find a useful guide.

One thing that I cannot understand, how does microsoft know that I am not using 4 installations? Will it warn me? Because I manage to install Win 7, now have it on four machines. I did not want to uninstall it first, in case this was not allowed. Will it like warn me if I start all four computers?
