I am using excel 2007, on occasion when i try to select any one cell it will highlight and select multiple cells. Once this occurs it happens with every cell I click on.

I have heard, but cannot confirm, that some people with this problem have found that altering the zoom level (slider in lower right corner of Excel window) gets the multiple seelction to go away

Hi HezD and everyone else who visits.
Stitching to Normal View from Page Payout stops the multiple selection UNTIL you go back to page layout and setect a cell.
It's a means of still using a sheet but if you need to alter the layout then Page Layout is needed to make sure your sheet still fits a printed page and it's a real pain to keep switching between views but is all you can do.
I've said before several time over the years as this HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS, it is a bug and has gone through several reincarnations of Excel.
I believe you get the bug when you inadvertantly press two or three keys at once just like a short cut. Once you have the bug in a sheet it's there for life. Over the years I have rewritten whole books to get rid of it, you can't copy either as that copies the bug!
It'll need Microsoft or someone real good at programming to sort it.
I'd LOVE a way to switch off every short cut and just be able to CHOOSE which operated if/when you wanted one. I bet IF they took out all the code for all those duplicate short cuts Excel would WIZ and be FAR more reliable on this issue.
Programs now are full of them, pop-up menus appearing all over, often right in your way so you have to figure out how to get rid of it with it doing something drastic.
Just because they can do all that **** doesn't mean they should do it.
Touch screen are horendus, I've got big fingers so HAVE to use a mouse anyway to get any sort of fine control.
I've kept up with email alerts on this as it's interesting to see how long Microsoft will let it continue, it is a major bug, really does disrupt using Excel if you get it.
In my early fifties when I first got it, sixty eight now and it's still running.
Funny as well with all the newbies, don't actually read through the posts just tack on how they have found a cue!!!!

Just happened to me in excel 2010. Zooming out, and switching between cell mode and page view did the trick. The F8 thing wasn't ever on. Weird issue!
I switched the view I was in from "page layout" to "normal" and back to "page layout" and that seemed to fix it. It actually started working again right after the first switch to "normal" but I prefer the "page layout" view and it ended up still working while in that view as well. Hope this helps!
