I have heard, but cannot confirm, that some people with this problem have found that altering the zoom level (slider in lower right corner of Excel window) gets the multiple seelction to go away

best wishes

Check to see if you're in "Page Layout" view.

Changing to "Normal" view fixed this problem for me and a lot of other folks in another thread.

I tried F8 - this did not work .  However adjusting the zoom worked perfectly!  Thank you!

Somewhere in this thread I explain how to replicate this bug, making it easy to avoid. Fwiw, I hadn't seen this in excel 2013.

This did, in fact, work. I can confirm. I have Microsoft Excel '07 as well, and changing the zoom did the trick. Hitting "F8" didn't make a difference, FYI.

Thank you.  Yes, changing the zoom was suggested before and I have tried it and have found it provides a temporary fix. I still haven't figured out what triggers the problem.  Annoying little bug!
