Unable to Use Crop Handles in Publisher 2010

I recently upgraded to Publisher 2010.  I know they redesigned the crop feature (with fit and fill), but I cannot seem to do a simple crop.  When I click on "Crop", the crop handles appear momentarily on the selected object, then disappear, and the standard resize handles (white dots) reappear.  Hope this makes sense.  It seems like there is a simple answer/solution - I'm sure I'm missing something.  Thanks in advance for your help.

The crop option is the same as it has in all versions of Publisher with the exception the cropped part is visible. Right-click your image, click on the crop symbol. It is also on the ribbon when you click on Picture Tools.

You cannot crop drawn autoshapes unless you convert them to pictures.

I don't know why your crop handles appear then disappear. Does this happen on all pictures? If you re-insert the troublesome image, do the crop handles work?

    Until or if a solution is found for those of you that are having this crop problem, you do not need to reinstall Pub 2007. Just download and install Irfanview: http://www.filehippo.com/download_irfanview/ or PaintNet: http://www.filehippo.com/download_paint.net/  or Faststone: http://www.filehippo.com/download_faststone_image_viewer/ and use one of these or another image editor to crop and edit your image before you insert it into Publisher.

    While the image editing functionality of Publisher has improved it still is very basic compared to what you can do with a third party image editor, and all the above are free and easy to use.

    Thanks for those David. However I find it much easier to use the integrated package and there whould be no excuse for microsoft not to have addressed this problem. Really really annoying

    I just installed Office 2010 and use Publsiher a great deal of the time.  Sure enough the cropping tool does not work.  Cropping handle bars disappear immediately after selecting crop.  I use crop a lot and do not want to use a seond software package to edit photos before going to Publisher.

    Help!

    Any news on this glaring bug MS?  I have done a clean install and cropping still doesnt work!!
