Unable to Use Crop Handles in Publisher 2010

I recently upgraded to Publisher 2010.  I know they redesigned the crop feature (with fit and fill), but I cannot seem to do a simple crop.  When I click on "Crop", the crop handles appear momentarily on the selected object, then disappear, and the standard resize handles (white dots) reappear.  Hope this makes sense.  It seems like there is a simple answer/solution - I'm sure I'm missing something.  Thanks in advance for your help.

The crop option is the same as it has in all versions of Publisher with the exception the cropped part is visible. Right-click your image, click on the crop symbol. It is also on the ribbon when you click on Picture Tools.

You cannot crop drawn autoshapes unless you convert them to pictures.

I don't know why your crop handles appear then disappear. Does this happen on all pictures? If you re-insert the troublesome image, do the crop handles work?

    I could kiss you guys.  I write all my reports in Publisher for work, the crop issue was making me nuts....thought maybe they changed the functionality, even tried looking at screen upside down and mousing with my left hand.

    I have about five different photo editors, so I was dreading reinstalls. I will disable mappoint.

    Thanks everyone for working on this.  I had the same issue.  Tested the corrupt user profile theory.  It is true.  In my case, I have a local admin account and a admin account in a domain on corporate network.  The local admin worked fine.  The domain user account with admin rights didn't.  I deleted the domain account from my system and readded it.  It works now.  However, I didn't clean up the system very well so now I have other issues.  ;-(
