Unable to Use Crop Handles in Publisher 2010

I recently upgraded to Publisher 2010.  I know they redesigned the crop feature (with fit and fill), but I cannot seem to do a simple crop.  When I click on "Crop", the crop handles appear momentarily on the selected object, then disappear, and the standard resize handles (white dots) reappear.  Hope this makes sense.  It seems like there is a simple answer/solution - I'm sure I'm missing something.  Thanks in advance for your help.

The crop option is the same as it has in all versions of Publisher with the exception the cropped part is visible. Right-click your image, click on the crop symbol. It is also on the ribbon when you click on Picture Tools.

You cannot crop drawn autoshapes unless you convert them to pictures.

I don't know why your crop handles appear then disappear. Does this happen on all pictures? If you re-insert the troublesome image, do the crop handles work?

    I have the exact same issue on two separate installs of Office 2010 on Windows 7 (x64),  I cant believe there is no fix for this.

    It happens on all picture types too... jpg, png, wmf, tif

    For info, it works perfectly in Word 2010.

    Do a repair through the Control Panel; Programs and Features, scroll down to Office 2010, click change. I have tried to duplicate your crop issue, the crop handles work perfectly for me no matter the image extension.

    Are you using a trial? Create a new profile, see if that helps.

    Thanks for your reply.  As I feared however, the repair made no difference.

    It is a full legal version of Office 2010 Plus (32bit) running on a legal version of Windows 7 (64bit) Ultimate.  This exact issue occurs on two new builds.  Both PC's are fully up to date with Windows and Microsoft updates.

    I tried it on the Administrator account and it worked fine but there is definately a bug here somewhere for it to be happening on 'normal' but admin equivalent accounts on my two systems.

    EDIT: Have just created a new admin-equivalent account and it works on that too so there is a conflict somewhere.
