Unable to Use Crop Handles in Publisher 2010

I recently upgraded to Publisher 2010.  I know they redesigned the crop feature (with fit and fill), but I cannot seem to do a simple crop.  When I click on "Crop", the crop handles appear momentarily on the selected object, then disappear, and the standard resize handles (white dots) reappear.  Hope this makes sense.  It seems like there is a simple answer/solution - I'm sure I'm missing something.  Thanks in advance for your help.

The crop option is the same as it has in all versions of Publisher with the exception the cropped part is visible. Right-click your image, click on the crop symbol. It is also on the ribbon when you click on Picture Tools.

You cannot crop drawn autoshapes unless you convert them to pictures.

I don't know why your crop handles appear then disappear. Does this happen on all pictures? If you re-insert the troublesome image, do the crop handles work?

    I installed MapPoint to see if it would be useful for another project I have in mind.  Thank goodness I haven't started using it yet and was able to delete it - and it fixed this problem which was intermittent for me.  (Mostly it would work, and then inexplicably it wouldn't.)  There is a VERY tight connection between the two for some reason:  MapPoint uninstall told me that I had to close Publisher before continuing!  Thanks for figuring this out SADell!

    Amazing!  I am running Windows 7 and have Microsoft Office Pro Academic 2010 installed on my computer.  I was unable to use the crop handles, the same issue everyone else was having.  The handles appear and disappear.  I did have MapPoint installed also.  After some very frustrating efforts to correct the problem, I had almost given up.  One quick uninstall of MapPoint and no more issues.  Thank you so very much for this information!

    Yeah and thanks very much to Microsoft for yet again for failing their customers once more by even refusing to acknowledge the problem in their bugy software, let alone provide a fix for it!  Disgraceful contemptual behaviour!
