Can't open Word File because of end tag/start tag mismatch error...need XML help!

I get the following message when i try to open a word document that i desperately need

  The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag

Location: Part: word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column: 96760

I know how to "unzip" the docx files and get to the main document.xml file, but i know nothing about xml programming. Any suggestions? i got an xml editor and found that there are 6 mismatch errors, but i don't know how to fix them. I also don't know how to rezip al the files back into a docx format. I would love any help. Thanks.

Going forward if you or anyone else comes across this issue again, we have a FixIt solution created that should address this problem.  You can go to the following KB article and it should give you the details about how you can correct these documents.

    I too am having the problem many people seem to be having on this forum. I have created a fairly large and important document which includes a lot of math equations and some graphics. Now every time I try to open it it says there is an error with a mismatch between the start and end tags. I have never worked with XML but have tried to find what feels like a needle in a haystack and can't really see how to proceed. Is there any chance you could help? I have uploaded the document to:

    I found a flaw in the XML at Line 2: Column 504331. I removed corrupt formatting code at that point and the file seems OK. You will have to proof-read the portion just past the words Teorema 0.1 and -4-3 on page 13. I believe it is missing a 2, a less than symbol and X-3.

    I also have a similar problem. I have been looking for a solution on the web, but couldn't find it. If anyone could help me solve this, I woud be very gratefull. I teach Statistics and the scholar year is just beginning. I was preparing the solutions of the exercises for my students and the docx file just gives an error saying it can´t be opened because of a content error. when I open details, the description is only "unspecified error".
