view only one page on the screen at a time

Hi,

I'm running Microsoft Office XP on win7 64bit and can't seem to find a way to view only one page in a Word document. If I download or write more than one page they come up in two page side by side format on the screen. Is there a way to set one page at a time viewing as default?

Guys, there is a VERY easy fix for Office XP / 2003 users:

Make your MS Word window fullscreen

Now it might display 2 pages side by side (depending on your screen resolution)

To get back to a single page while using the PRINT LAYOUT view, follow below:

Click on VIEW -> choose WEB LAYOUT -> Click VIEW again -> now go back to PRINT LAYOUT

The problem should be solved, if it occurs again in the future, just follow these quick steps

    Microsoft SUCKS!!! when it comes to making good software.  I'm so sick of them.  Too bad they  got us by the balls.

    Nudge the Word window narrower a tad until the page jumps back to the centre of the window. With wide screens there is no advantage to be gained to have Word operating full screen.

    Here's a twist to this "feature designed by programmers who want to show off and have no idea how the product is actually used nor what users want".

    Up until I opened a Word document my wife sent me from work, whenever I opened Word 2007 I got one clean, 100% zoom, centered in the screen page. Now, Word 2007 want to open EVERY document, even those created in Word 97 in two page view. What gives? Was this "feature"part of a recent service pack as well?

    While I see your points, I do think that if you explicitly select the One Page view, what you should get is one page, not two. And in fact, you can do this, but not by using the Zoom slider. You have to open the Zoom dialog (by clicking the percentage number on the status bar) and select Whole Page. Unfortunately, as has been previously noted, this works only until you change the Zoom and then try to change it back.

    THIS is precisely the point I was trying to make.. Kudos to you for understanding what I was getting at.. and IMHO it should be an application setting that the END USER can control and set (without needing some daggon macro thank you very much).. I can set up nearly every other environmental setting in Office apps, why is this one different..

           

    It's definitely a limitation in Word. I'm guessing that nobody expected monitors to grow large enough for it to be a problem.

    Exactly!!  and this is why I say it's a flaw in the software.. Or perhaps more correctly I should say it is a design based on old technology since (as

    Graham Mayor pointed out)  "This behaviour is intentional and has been present since at least Word 97".

    Perhaps it's time for Microsoft to make sure it's software plays nice with larger monitors as they are becoming more popular and common..
