Old Style Word Art in Word 2010?

Could anyone tell me whether it is possible to insert Word Art similar to that in versions of MS Word from 2003 and before?  The Word Art in MS Word 2010 only seems to appear in straight lines, whereas I would sometimes prefer to have the writing in the style of a curved banner?  Have MS just removed this option, oram I looking in the wrong place? It just doesn't seem to be an option? Thanks. P.S, I know the text can be offset at an angle, but clicking on the small green circle, but I want the writing to curve?

Word 2010's WordArt is a bit more powerful than you suspect, I believe. Insert a WordArt object, then, in Drawing Tools - Format, look at Text Effects - Transform. Does that give you what you want?

If not, you can still get the old style. Save the file in Word 2003 format, and now when you choose Insert - WordArt, you'll see the legacy choices.

    In words 2010 simply in "Home" Tab select "Change Style" and then "Style Set" and then "Words 2003".

    Now go to "Insert Tab" and select "WordArt" . Its just like Words2003. Now every option in the "Format" tab will be like Words2003.

    Didn't see anything about curved text in any of those links.  However, saving the document to 2003 format works like a champ.  I guess, I'll stick to 2003.

    I agree you should be able to, but the question was if you actually can.  The answer appears to be "No"  unless you want to save to 2003 format.

    Don't assume any such thing. I can routinely take Word 2003 documents containing WordArt and open them in either 2007 or 2010. The WordArt appears, and when it's selected the WordArt Tools context ribbon is shown; that has all the tools from the 2003 WordArt toolbar.

    Instead, I would assume that there's something wrong with either your documents or your Office 2007/2010 setup or options.

    When you say "the object disappears", do you mean it can't be seen/selected at all? Go to the Word Options dialog in 2007/2010, click the Advanced tab of the dialog, scroll down to the "Show document content" section, and make sure "Show drawings and text boxes on screen" is checked. (But there isn't a similar option in PowerPoint as far as I'm aware).
