Project 2010 Timescale Error.

I have a sample project which has very short tasks(1-2 minutes).  If I set the timescale options to display minutes with a count of 1, the Gantt chart frequently displays incorrectly.  The Gantt chart show tasks starting 1 minute before the start of working time (Standard Calendar), the timescale count is variable (2 or occasionally 3 minutes) and the Gantt bars do not display correctly, either with the wrong duration or just a short vertical line.  Is this a know bug?

Hi Mike,

Sorry but I fail to see what a re-post could do after 40 replies and the finding that yes, I can reproduce the error and that it has been carried forward to the product team :-(

Greetings,

Is this still an issue? Please re-post if an answer is still required.

    Greg,

There are various types of memory for a computer. If you are referring to your main memory then I hope you really mean 4Gb instead of 4Mb. My iMac has 3Gb of main memory with 512M allocated to my virtual machines, on which I run Windows. There is also cache memory (mine happens to be 4Mb) and video memory (I have a rather small 128Mb with 32Mb allocated to my virtual machines).

It's interesting that the display issue is confined to the lowest timescale setting. Internally Project stores and calculates all time related data in minutes. That tells us the issue is purely a display phenomenon and not something involving Project's calculation engine.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see if the Microsoft product team comes up with anything.

Although my clients PCs are a little older (but still duel core and 4Mb of memory), mine is only 6 months old (i5 650, 4Mb of memory), so I dont think that is the issue.

I have tried changing the durations from minutes to hours, and the Gantt chart then displays correctly (this was the solution I used when I ran a recent course at my clients).  It would seem that the problem only exists on these very low timescale settings.

Thanks for your support and passing on the issue to the product team.
